PCU Youth

Client Overview
The Presbyterian Church in Uganda (PCU) was founded in 1979 by Rev. Dr. Kefa Sempangi because of the void in the religious landscape in Uganda of reformed teaching and the practice of a Presbyterian form of church government. On 28th January 1981 the PCU was registered as a company unlimited by Guarantee and later in 2010 by board resolution, registered as a company with limited liability (Reg: 9269). Since then the PCU and her members have been actively involved in the gospel ministry in Uganda through evangelism, discipleship, church planting and deeds of love, mercy and justice. Being registered with the NGO Board (S. 591/126), the PCU is licensed to undertake initiatives to improve the quality of life of her members and Ugandans as a whole.
The church has a Presbyterian government. And so, in the local level there is the congregation with teaching elders, ruling elders and deacons, the presbytery is the middle governing body, currently there are Semuliki Presbytery, Kapchorwa presbytery, Gulu, Kampala, Central, Mbale presbyteries and Rwenzori and Eastern presbyteries are in dialogue to integrate into the Presbyterian Church in Uganda. The General Assembly is the highest level of government. The church maintains its headquarters in Kampala, Uganda.
Challenge
The youths under the Presbyterian church of Uganda came and sat together looking for ways of promoting unity and holistic growth among the youths in the various regional presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church. It was decided that putting up a nice website would a great tool towards these ends. Its from this background that we were contacted to create a static website for them. The website was really in existence to promote ministerial activities, and facilitate better communication between the regional presbyteries.
Approach
The project was initially given to a certain company though it turned out that the company delayed and even the work they were presenting didn’t meet our client’s expectations. So we were hired to freshen up and improve the quality of their website.
We started out by creating various site layouts and designs from which the final design would be then be selected. Only two designs were crafted out, from which we selected one. We could later find out that the PCU Youth body never had a dedicated logo to appear on its site. Consequently, we made improvements on the current PCU logo which we customized to create a PCU Youth logo.
The website was intended to be a static one with just a single contact form to allow its administrators to receive any comments on how the youths can be served better. It was basically a simple and general website with little functionality since the body hoped to upgrade it later.
Results
After all the effort, the result was a simple, responsive, well validated website that would adapt to most devices screens. It was optimized for high page load speeds and well tested on all browsers. It was also optimized for mobile phones using a mobile first design strategy.
